Abstract:
Induced pluripotent stem(iPS) cells are derived from somatic cells by introducing reprogramming factors. The establishment of iPS cells brought the potentials for regenerative therapies and new research tools, such as human disease models and drug screening.
In our presentation, we would like to talk about the historical background of iPS cells and about some of the current studies such as generating disease models and tissue-specific cells. Furthermore, we will focus on the differences between iPS cells and embryonic stem(ES) cells and on the reprogramming methods and mechanisms. We will try to comprehend the biological characters and discuss whether iPS cells can be useful tools for future applications.
