
Lipids compose the biological membranes that define cellular and organelle structure. The vast structural diversity of lipids is biologically essential and must be strictly regulated. As imbalances in membrane lipid composition are often pathological, we aim to determine the roles of lipids in maintaining membrane function and apply these fundamental discoveries to human health and disease.
We investigate the regulation of lipid states and their involvement in diverse biological processes. We primarily concentrate on mitochondria, an essential organelle for robust energy production. We measure and manipulate cellular lipids to address questions such as:
●What factors regulate mitochondrial lipid synthesis and remodeling?
●How do lipids mediate mitochondrial bioenergetics?
●How are membrane lipid perturbations caused, and how do they drive diseases?
