Support for English editing in preparing scientific manuscripts by Young Scientists(Fiscal Year 2009)By Kumamoto University Global COE Program“Cell Fate Regulation Research and Education Unit”
As part of our program, Kumamoto University Global COE Cell Fate Regulation Research and Education Unit will support expenses of English editing in preparing manuscripts related to our COE for the benefit of young scientists, particularly non-native English speakers. Those who are interested in this support, consult your supervisors with announcement described below.
1. Application Requirements
Applicants must be members of COE Liaison Laboratory and any of the following:
i. Graduate students (including those in a Masters course);
ii. Post-Doctoral Fellows;
iii. *Faculty members; and
iv. *Others who are affiliated with Kumamoto University
(*Within ten (10) years after receiving a Degree)
Applicants must participate in COE activities, including COE Liaison Laboratory seminars.
2. Applicable Publication Papers O n Research Achievements
English papers must be written as a first author or corresponding author with regard to research achievements in compliance with the principles and research contents of Global COE Program Cell Fate Regulation Research and Education Unit. The papers will be screened and adopted on each occasion within the budget framework. It is preferable to place an order for English editing with a professional company (the “Editing Company”) after receiving a Notice of Adoption. However, it will be covered to place an order before receiving a Notice of Adoption, from the standpoint of promptness, if ordered on or after the date of the application. The budget shall be implemented within the 2009 fiscal year.
3. The Number of Applications
Unlimited.
4. Required Funds for Support
The funds required by the Editing Company for English editing. As the purpose of the support is to enhance young scientists' techniques for writing English papers, it is inapplicable if you make an order for reformatting the references or for relatively expensive editing options, including Japanese-English translation.
5. English Editing Companies
The retained Editing Companies must be located and possess a bank account in Japan . Expenses, i.e., editing completed by companies other than Editing Companies, are unsupported by this program. In addition, if you place an order on the internet or by other means, for editing with an Editing Company located overseas that allows credit card payments, the date of withdrawal must be within the 2009 fiscal year and all procedures for reimbursement must be completed within the 2009 fiscal year.
6. Method of Payment
The subsidy will be transferred into the account of the Editing Company or the payer, as stated in section 5. Please note that a subsidy over the fiscal year is not available in both cases. Documentary evidence with regard to the editing must be submitted.
7. Condition for Support
Please write, in English, in the acknowledgement paragraph of your English paper that you received a subsidy from Kumamoto University Global COE Program. Please use the form that will be sent separately.
8. Method of Application
Please submit the designated application form to Global COE Liaison Laboratory Office (5F of Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics) with copies of the pages of the title and abstract. Submission by email is unacceptable. The applications will be confidentially screened by one or two COE project members. If you would not like to be evaluated by a certain member due to the competitive nature of your research and other reasons, please mention it at the time of application.
9. Deadline
The date when all payment procedures must be completed within the 2009 fiscal year. Please do not hesitate to consult with us.
